Wisconsin fall road trips are so underestimated! Living in Minnesota, I love to visit our neighboring state of Wisconsin, especially in the fall. See my favorite places to visit in Wisconsin in the fall here!
La Crosse, Wisconsin
La Crosse sits right where Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa meet, and the bluffs here put on a color show you can see from 600 feet up. Drive to the top of Grandad Bluff to see one of the best lookouts in the Midwest. We also love Apple Blossom overlook! Then hop on the La Crosse Queen, an old-school paddlewheel riverboat to see all the pretty colors from the water. There’s great local shopping and food spots here too!
Vilas County, Wisconsin
Vilas County is located in Northern Wisconsin and is the ultimate fall destination. So unique and fun! Not only does it have great hiking, but you can visit a cranberry farm, the supper club where John Dillinger had a shootout with the FBI, and have a traditional Friday night fish fry!

Door County, Wisconsin
Door County is known for being a summer getaway, but visiting in the fall gives you all the fun with fewer people! Enjoy amazing food and drinks, try the Cherry pit spit at a local winery, and hike around the water. So pretty!

Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin
Wisconsin Dells has so much more to offer than just waterparks. Hike Devil’s Lake State Park for amazing views, walk through the Witches Gulch, take a tour of the Dells, and ride through Lost Canyon on a horse drawn wagon!

Eau Claire Wisconsin
Eau Claire is one of the easiest fall road trips from the Twin Cities. It’s under two hours, and it turns into one of the prettiest little cities in Wisconsin come October. We walked the footbridges at Phoenix Park and also kayaked under them (we brought our own kayaks). This is the perfect spot for shopping and brewery hopping during some of the best weather in the Midwest!

Appleton, Wisconsin
Appleton is a favorite with kids. It has a walkable downtown with boutiques (our favorite has a charm bar!), coffee shops, and great restaurants. For fall color, the trails at Heckrodt Wetland Reserve in Menasha are so pretty this time of year, plus they have great outdoor playgrounds for the kids. Stay at the CopperLeaf downtown and also check out the children’s museum. And don’t forget the famous Cleo’s Brown Beam for a Dirty Snowball!

Interstate State Park, Wisconsin
Interstate State Park is located in both Wisconsin and Minnesota, and so gorgeous to visit in the fall! Hike around the park, gaze at the bluffs, and take a river cruise on the Minnesota side in Taylor’s Falls to learn more about the area.
