Why you need to stay at Under the Canvas Zion

Under the Canvas Zion has been on my bucket list for a while. It’s great for travelers who want to camp but are coming from far away and can’t bring all the necessities!

So, when we were planning our trip to Northern Arizona and Zion, I knew exactly where I needed to stay. Here’s 5 reasons why you need to stay here too! And even if you don’t plan on making it to Zion anytime soon, they have locations all over the nation’s national parks, included a new location at Mount Rushmore!

Reason #1: Glamping at its finest

The number one reason to stay at Under the Canvas is the tents that are totally glamping-worthy. This isn’t your ordinary campground. With many layouts to choose from, we decided on the Safari, mainly because it was the cheapest and we didn’t need a lot of room for two people. It was seriously magical! The king sized bed was super cozy, and the staff taught us how to use the wood-burning fireplace to keep us warm at night. Bathrooms and showers are communal but they were really close and clean. Waking up to the view of Zion was absolutely unbelievable!

Reason #2: The most cozy lobby

The most fun part of Under the Canvas Zion was the main lobby tent. We were greeted here with the friendly staff who gave us a tour of the grounds and drove us and our luggage to our tent. The lobby tent is open 24 hours a day which gave us so much peace of mind while staying in the middle of the great outdoors. This is also where we spent our night winding down from our hikes with great food, live music, and an indoor fire pit where we roasted marshmallows for s’mores! There’s no wifi here, so there’s also plenty of games and drinks to keep you busy!

Reason #3: The food

It’s not enough to just mention the food in reason #2, so here we go. The main lobby tent at Under the Canvas Zion is also home to a restaurant that serves much more than the usual cafeteria fare you’ll find in the national parks. We ordered the Philly and the pesto mushroom ravioli and it was AMAZING. We also ate a yogurt parfait and oatmeal for breakfast the next morning. Coffee, hot chocolate, tea, and water are always free! One of the best things though, is that you can order boxed lunches for lunch while you’re off on your hike. We definitely took advantage of this!

Reason #4: Zion views

Under the Canvas Zion is literally right across the street from Zion National Park, so the views are ridiculously cool. Make sure to take in the views in the morning from you tent and also at night! The stars and night sky are beautiful against the mountains. Being Under the Canvas is located on the west side of the park, you have easy access to some less crowded hikes like North Gate Peaks. But it’s still only a 35 minute drive to the visitor center on the South side of the park, which is what we did.

Reason #5: Outdoor activities

It was a unseasonably chilly when we were visiting in mid-May, so we didn’t take advantage of the outdoor activities, but there’s lots of fun stuff to do, like make s’mores in the outdoor fire pits, play horseshoes, volleyball, and even hang out in a cozy swing. Under the Canvas also offers help as you’re preparing to hike Zion and you can even book excursions, like canyoning, through them.
