unique place to stay in arizona

Looking for a unique place to stay in Arizona? This spot is the most unique and authentic place I’ve ever stayed – definitely an experience I’ll never forget.

On our way back from Zion National Park, near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and Page Arizona, we decided to stay in a sheep wagon on Navijo land. We didn’t know much more besides this when we booked our stay through AirBnB, so here’s all the details you’ll need to know for your stay and why it’s so unique!

HOW FUN IS THIS. Two sheep wagons are on site at Shashe Diné eco retreat and glamping b&b. They are refurbished with navy-grade canvas that keeps the cold out on cold nights and the sun out on warm days. They are small (just right for 2 people) but so so cozy! We visited in mid-May when it was unseasonably cold, so it got down to the mid-30’s at night – brrr! Thankfully the owner added sub zero sleeping bags and plenty of blankets to keep warm. I loved the details of the wagon, from the guitar to the decor, it was so cute!

Before we arrived, we were asked if we would want an authentic Navajo dinner. We of course said yes. At about 7:30 we had steak sandwiches with fluffy Navajo tortillas delivered to our wagon door (I would recommend this over the burger if you can choose!) At this time we also agreed to having breakfast delivered in the morning which consisted of a basket of fruit, baked goods, yogurt, granola bars, and Navajo coffee and tea! So yummy and more than enough!

The grounds

In addition to the wagons, there are a few canvas glamping tents on site (similar to our stay at Under the Canvas the night before!), and even a traditional Navajo mud hut that you can stay in. The bathrooms are close by and clean, but there’s no running water, so be prepared to shower openly! The land we were on has been in the owner’s family for years – they can trace their heritage here back 18 generations – 18! We loved hearing the stories of their background, the land, and how they decided to use it to host travelers. It doesn’t get much more authentic than this!

Animals

The owners live on site and operate a ranch. This means that there are sheep and dogs roaming around the area. We were lucky enough to see the sheep up close as they grazed through the campground, bringing dogs and their puppies along with them. Yes – PUPPIES! They were so adorable and cuddly!

Hike

On of our favorite parts of staying here was the on-site hike. It’s very easy and only took about a half hour. A little trail takes you up to a ridge that overlooks the campsite on one side and an amazing view of the canyons and Page on the other. We were obviously the only ones on the trail which was so refreshing after a weekend of overcrowded hikes!

Now you know why this is the most unique place to stay in Arizona! Make your next trip one to remember by booking this experience here. It’s is unforgettable! For another fun glamping experience, check out why you need to stay at Under the Canvas here!
