Super Bowl events I want to attend

It’s 2018 and the Super Bowl is just 2 weeks away! After the craziness of this weekend’s game, I know I’m with all Vikings fans in hoping and praying that we will win our first ever Super Bowl on our home turf.

I plan to attend as many Super Bowl events leading up to the big game as I possibly can. Here’s a roundup of what’s on my list! I hope to see you there!

Luminary Loppet

This urban cross country ski festival is an annual event in the Twin Cities. The day before the Super Bowl, the Luminary Loppet takes place on the Lake of the Isles where you can walk, snowshoe, or ski the lit trail, take in some ice sculptures, and listen to an ice concert. After the Loppet, head to the Isles-Calhoun Lagoon for the REI Luminary party for more music and beer. The party is from 6 – 10 pm and tickets are $10. Dress warm – all activities are outdoors!

Bold North Zip Line

Advanced tickets are sold out, but just in case they make more available or you can convince your friend to use their ticket, I’m including the Bold North Zip Line because it looks like so much fun! When else will you be able to zip line across the Mississippi? Even if you can’t (or don’t want to) brave the wind burn, it would be fun to watch. Located near the Hennepin Avenue Bridge, the zip line runs from January 26 – February 4th. $30 per ticket. I’m for sure wearing my ski goggles for this one.

Sota Pop

This activity in INDOORS! One of few as Minnesota is embracing its winter during Super Bowl week. This pop up experience promises to feature instagrammable photo ops and local art that are a reflection of our state. Plus, it’s free! Open in the Renaissance Squire Building on Nicollet Mall January 26th – February 4th. Sounds like an ideal spot to escape the cold to me.

MIA Ice Maze

Do you sense a theme here? Ice, ice, and more ice? The Minneapolis Institute of Art is creating an ice maze that features images from one if its upcoming exhibitions. This looks like a great family-friendly activity, but let’s be real, who wouldn’t think an ice maze is cool? Opening night is February 1st from 5-9 pm and open during regular museum hours through February 4th. And it’s free!

St. Paul Winter Carnival Ice Palace

I remember going to these when I was younger, and this year the St. Paul Winter Carnival ice palace is back and better than ever! Located in Rice Park, the 70 foot Palace will be surrounded by other fun activities like and ice sculptures and an ice bar. The winter carnival is free and runs January 25th – February 10th.

Wells Fargo Winter Skate

This is my favorite places to skate in the Twin Cities because of the gorgeous buildings and sparkling trees that surround you. Located right in the middle of the St. Paul Winter Carnival in Rice Park, Wells Fargo Winter Skate is open daily for open skate through February 11th, so make sure to stop by if you’re visiting the ice palace! Rental is available for $4 (or free if you have a Wells Fargo card!)

St. Paul Super Slide

St. Paul is taking advantage of the open CHS field to to make room for a 144 ft long snow slide. How awesome does that sound? The St. Paul Super Slide will be accompanied by an ice fishing pond filled with rainbow trout that you can take home if caught! Other winter activities will take place on the field, but you can ice fish for $5 and ride the slide for $10 (adults) or $5 (kids). The event is open January 25th – February 10th and tickets go on sale Friday, January 19th at 10 am on the Saints website. Note that the ice fishing only runs through January 27th – February 3rd.

Art Shanty

This unique art show on ice is taking place on Lake Harriet this year. The variety of local art in fun little huts on the lake sounds like the most Minnesotan and one-of-a-kind experience there is. Open Saturdays and Sundays from January 20th – February 11th, you can enter the Art Shanty near the Lake Harriet Bandshell.

Super Bowl Experience

Jump into the festivities by seeing the Vince Lombardi trophy up close, get autographs from players, and participate in many more interactive activities at the Super Bowl Experience. This also looks like a great event for families and takes place at the Convention Center January 27th – February 3rd. Tickets are $35.

Super Bowl Live

Nicollet Malls looks like it will be the hub for fans leading up to the big game. From concerts to food trucks to sleigh rides to ice skating to photo ops to snowmobiles doing flips, this place will have it all. All events are FREE! I’m personally looking forward to Idina Menzel on the 26th, the Prince tribute on the 29th, and Dessa, still TBA. Super Bowl Live is open from January 30th – February 4th.

Rooftop ice lounge

Crave has one of the best rooftops to enjoy in the summer, but during Super Bowl week, they’re opening it back up for a winter wonderland. Sit on a comfy ice couch, get a drink from the ice bar, and even learn how to ice fish, all right in the heart of downtown Minneapolis! Tickets are $25 and include one drink ticket. Open January 21st – February 4th from 11am – 2 am. Also…Crave isn’t the only one who thought of this idea. Check out this article for more fun ice bars in the Twin Cities.

Nomadic Live

If you’re looking to spend some $$$, Nomadic Live is where you can do it. Fans of Imagine Dragons (February 1st), Pink (February 2nd), and JLo (February 3rd) will be in for a real treat as the concerts are taking place in the old Armory. I won’t be going to these, but SO wish I could see the transformation of the space!

Mystic Lake Concerts

For a little bit cheaper (starting at $200 for general admission), you can stop by Mystic Lake for The Chainsmokers (2/1), Kygo (2/2), Florida Georgia Line (2/3), and Gwen Stefani (2/4). These concerts are taking place at Mystic Lake Center, so no need to drive into the downtown madness!

I’m sure more Super Bowl events will pop up within the next few weeks, so I will update if I find something else that’s worth sharing! Is there anything I missed??
