With so many places to visit in Switzerland, it’s hard to choose where you want to spend your time! We spent 5 days in Switzerland at the end of August and made our way to the places on this list. And I would recommend them to anyone!
We spent our time in the Jungfrau region of Switzerland and I think this is the perfect spot to spend 4-5 days. And it’s conveniently located a few hours from the Zurich airport. Keep your eye out for another post coming soon on the details of everything we did in each of these spots!
Interlaken
We flew into Zurich and took the train into Interlaken. Switzerland pro tip number one: Download the SBB mobile app in order to plan your train trips and buy the saver day pass for your journeys to and from the airport to save money. ANYWAYS, Interlaken is a must-see city at the base of the mountains and it’s so easy to spend a whole day there. It’s full of great restaurants and is a train hub to the surrounding mountain towns. I highly recommend taking these trains to explore the rest of the towns on this list, as Interlaken is the most touristy and busy of them all!
Lauterbrunnen
Lauterbrunnen is like a fairy tale! Located right in the valley (and the next train stop after Interlaken) you can walk through the tiny town and get up close to some of the most amazing waterfalls in the world. Definitely check out Staubbach Falls and Trummelbach falls. The walk in the valley is breathtaking and so are the falls! One day is a good amount of time to explore the area. Also, for the rest of our trains and trams and gondolas, we purchased a three day Jungfrau Travel Pass to save money and to only use one pass while we were in the Jungfrau region. Such a good decision!
Gimmelwald
We took the Stechelberg Gondola from the Lauterbrunnen Valley up to Gimmelwald. Note that this gondola was not included in the Jungfrau pass but was relatively cheap to take to Gimmelwald. Gimmelwald is such a cute little town! Our first few days in the area were SUPER cloudy and rainy so we couldn’t see the beautiful views from the town, but had some good ones from our gondola!
Mürren
We continued our trip up the Stechelberg Gondola to Mürren where it got even cloudier. I had lots of restaurants I wanted to visit that had amazing views, but being we couldn’t see much, we instead walked around to some cozy restaurants to warm up. Even though we couldn’t see the views, we still loved the town.
Wengen
We stayed in Wengen our entire time in Switzerland to be right in the middle of the mountains. When you stay further into the mountains (like in Wengen) you have first access to the surrounding gondolas and trams RIGHT when they open. Being the first group to reach the top of a mountain in the morning is the way to go! This town is so peaceful, doesn’t allow cars, and is so dreamy!
Spiez
Spiez is located on the Thunersee lake only a few minutes from Interlaken. Your Jungfrau pass will get you there for free on the train. Check out this town for a different feel than the surrounding mountain towns. We loved the old castle and church, and stopped for some drinks by the lake which is so blue and beautiful!
Now that you know where to go, are you looking for things to do in these locations? Stay tuned for my next post coming soon!
