Honeymoon in Rome

Honeymoon in Rome

36 hours in Rome for honeymoon

We went into Rome with hundreds of suggestions from friends, and not enough time to even think about doing everything. With just under 2 days to spend in Rome, we decided to walk the city and stop for lots of gelato on the way! Click here for our full France and Italy honeymoon itinerary for more.

Days spent in Rome: 1.5
Where we stayed: A Trastevere da M.E.

Trastevere

Looking for where to stay on your honeymoon in Rome? Trastevere da M.E. was a great boutique hotel that had amazing staff who helped us order a car to the airport, and even had an extra power adapter when we forgot ours in Positano. To top it all off, they had champagne waiting for us on arrival, which was so bittersweet being it was our last champagne toast of the honeymoon! The Trastevere area was perfect for our time in the city, meaning it’s close enough to walk to the ancient monuments, but also gave us adorable, winding streets to explore. One of our favorite stops was Pizzeria Ai Marmi. We ate a pizza every day while in Italy, and this was our favorite! Also, can you tell it was 100 degrees while we were there? My hair and photo-taking skills in this city were far from perfect, but hey, that’s what you get sometimes

Colosseum

Colloseum

With both Cole and I being history buffs, we definitely didn’t get enough time in the eternal city, but wanted to at least see the Colosseum. When buying tickets for the Colosseum, you are also buying tickets for the Roman Forum/Palatine. It is 12 Euro total per person, and the ticket is valid for 2 days and allows one entry for each of the two sites. The lines at the Colosseum get crazy long to buy these tickets, so purchase them at the Roman Forum instead. We walked right up to the ticket counter and were then able to bypass the lines at the Colosseum the next day!

Walking tours

Honeymoon in Rome

While in Rome, we walked everywhere. From the Pantheon, to the Vatican, to the Trevvi Fountain. The one thing I regret is not saving enough time to actually tour the Vatican. I hear it’s breathtaking, but necessary to purchase tickets in advance.

One more thing I have to mention before I’m done writing about our honeymoon in Rome! Throughout our trip in Italy, but especially on our honeymoon in Rome, we used the Rick Steves Audio Europe app as we toured these famous monuments. Save some money on tours and download this free app!! Everything is so much more incredible if you can actually learn the history behind what you’re seeing. (And you can fast forward parts that might get a little boring!) We may have looked silly holding a phone up to our ears while walking around, but this app was our best friend!
