One of my best friends lives in Texas, so when I happened to be there for work, we jumped at the chance for a girls weekend in Dallas! We had so much fun exploring, brunching, and shopping. Plus, I went to my first rodeo! Keep scrolling for all the details!
Henry’s Majestic
Henry’s Majestic was our first brunch stop on day one and was our FAVORITE. It was raining the morning we were there, so we sat in an adorable, enclosed outdoor space, complete with the “Majestic” sign that was perfect for a photo op. We shared the warm vanilla coffee cake (which is a must order!) and ordered the stuffed brioche French toast and Majestic egg double double. It was so much food but so so good.
Stirr
For brunch on our second day, we stopped by Stirr in Deep Ellum (more on this neighborhood below). Stirr has a great atmosphere with an even greater rooftop with views of downtown Dallas. We ordered mimosas, frose, and breakfast tacos – so yummy!
Fort Worth Stockyards
We were looking for a true Texas experience, and there’s not a better spot than the Fort Worth Stockyards! I could talk about this place all day, mainly because we spent all day here, but it was such a fun experience! It is a working stockyard, which means real longhorns, horses, and cowboys are always in attendance. We went on a Saturday when a rodeo was in town, so the old town was buzzing with excitement. We even went into a little shop and bought some really cheap cowboy hats to try to fit in 🙂 While you’re at the Stockyards, make sure to grab a drink from Cowtown winery (or anywhere else) and walk the streets, just like Vegas! Also stop at the petting zoo and attend a rodeo if you can!
Deep Ellum
If you have a free morning or afternoon, take some time to explore the Deep Ellum neighborhood. This artistic community reminds me a lot of Minneapolis’ Uptown neighborhood with so many fun shops, restaurants, and breweries! My favorite shops were Rocket Fizz (candy shop), Jade & Clover (cute stationary and plant shop), and Life of Riley (knick knack and gift shop). If you’re looking for some good barbecue, Pecan Lodge is also in the area and some of the best bbq around!
Dallas Farmers Market
I have never been to a farmer’s market quite like this before. The Dallas Farmers Market is so much more than your ordinary market. Inside, you can eat, drink, and shop from some of the most popular spots around the city all in one spot. Make sure to check out Luxe District (another cute plant shop), Coolhaus (Amazing ice cream sandwiches!), and Lone Chimney Mercantile (the cutest southern gifts). Outside, you get more of the traditional farmer’s market complete with food vendors and local makers. “The Shed” is only open Fridays through Sundays, but make sure to stop by Nikki Smith’s booth for adorable dainty jewelry and I See Waffles for a mini waffle on a stick!
Checkered Past Winery
We wanted a little snack on our last day, so we specifically looked up wineries that had good-looking charcuterie boards! If you haven’t ever done this, then we can’t be friends 😉 We weren’t disappointed at Checkered Past Winery. Order wine locally or from around the world, but don’t forget about the cheese and charcuterie board. It hit the spot!
Taqueria La Ventana
Looks like I saved the best for last 🙂 When in Texas, it’s a must to have some tacos. And guac. And queso. And margaritas. We stopped by Taqueria La Ventana for some authentic Mexican food with the coolest atmosphere. Located right in the middle of downtown, this restaurant only has outdoor seating, giving you an escape in an otherwise hectic place. The food was incredible and I will absolutely be back next time I’m in Dallas. Also, if you don’t have time to go to this location, you can also get their food at the Farmers Market!
I would recommend a girls weekend in Dallas to anyone looking for a quick and cheap getaway. Where are your favorite girls weekend locations?
Planning a date for me and my wife’s anniversary. Thanks for sharing this gave me a lot of ideas! Best Regards!
Most of the female travelers are happy with solo traveling. But solo traveling is not an easy for female.
Hi Lindsay! You are very positive. I read your blog and remember myself. Before, I, too, was like you, easy-going, joyful. I did what I wanted. But then she got married and everything changed. A very informative article about Dallas. Soon my husband has a vacation and we are going to travel. I liked Dallas for a long time, and now, after reading your article, I want to go there even more.
