Things to do in Positano – Amalfi Coast
It’s finally time to write about our Amalfi Coast honeymoon in Positano! After traveling around Paris and Italy for a week (read details of our itinerary here!) we were ready for some relaxing time at the beach.
Days spent on our Amalfi Coast honeymoon in Positano: 5
Where we stayed: Hotel Vittoria
How to get to Positano
Before leaving, I read SO MANY articles about the best way to get to Positano, so I’ll make it easy on you and share how we did it (super easy!). From Florence, we took the train to Naples where we hired a private driver to take us to Positano. For around $100, our driver, Gino, navigated the crazy cliffs and other motorists while he shared fun facts about the cities we were passing. This is the most beautiful drive in the world, and Gino happily pulled over for a few photo ops. Sometimes you just have to do what’s easiest, and this was much less stressful than figuring out how to navigate the bus system!
Hotel Vittoria
We stayed in a little hidden gem of a hotel in Positano that gave us the private balcony we were looking for and was complete with stairs to a semi-private beach. Plus, the staff were great (anyone who carries luggage up and down the crazy stairs of Positano is a saint in my book!). Check out these amazing views – you couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces!
Fornillo beach
We didn’t waste any time getting to the beach. The main beach in Positano (Marina Grande) is beautiful, but can get crowded, so if you’re there I would highly recommend taking the path Via Positanesi D’America up and around the cliffs to find the more peaceful Fornillo beach. It only takes a few minutes!
We spent our first few days here and paid $20 total per day for 2 beach chairs. Beach chairs are a must being the beaches in Positano consist of rocks, not sand! For lunch, we enjoyed the nearby (and less expensive) beachside restaurants to get out of the sun and share a pizza. The water is beautiful, and we even got some good snorkeling in!
Where to eat in Positano
Positano is an insanely beautiful, but small city on the Amalfi Coast. There are many restaurants, but the amount of people visiting still means they can charge top dollar. If you would like more of an authentic experience, skip the restaurants right on the water and head to Ristorante Mediterraneo (Recommendation from our driver, Gino!) or Ristorante Saraceno d’Oro. The wait staff at both restaurants were fantastic and they went the extra mile with complimentary champagne and limonchello to celebrate our honeymoon. Plus, there’s a band that plays traditional Italian music that walks the streets in this area. So fun!
If you’re near the water and are looking for a drink that won’t break the bank, stop by L’Alternativa. This little stand is located right on the docks and is a favorite spot for locals. We would stop here both during the day and after dinner because the beer was just 2.50 Euro!
L’Uomo e il Mare Capri Tour
One of the most magical days on our Amalfi Coast honeymoon was spent taking a day trip to Capri through the L’Uomo e il Mare Capri Tour. We allowed ourselves a few splurges on our Amalfi Coast honeymoon, and this was one of them! We took a small boat out onto the Mediterranean with about 10 other people. Our highlight was peeking inside the grottos and snorkeling through the caves to a private beach on the other side. This is the most amazing way to get to Capri!
Capri
Before our underwater adventures, we spent the morning exploring Capri after our boat dropped us off. Instead of waiting in line to take the bus, we shared a cab with two other couples from Marina Grande to the top of Anacapri (Another great way to make friends!) Once in Anacapri, we took the chairlift to the top of Mount Solaro for 11 Euro per person roundtrip. We strolled around the mountain and Anacapri before taking the bus back down to Marina Grande. If this isn’t a dream day in Italy, I don’t know what is!

Hello – I have a very similar iternary for our June honeymoon. I was wondering how and where you booked the private driver from Naples to Postiano and Positano to Rome!
Any help is greatly appreciated.
