Located right off the Interstate, the National Buffalo Museum is such a cool spot to visit, even if you just have under an hour while you’re passing through! Learn about this history of the buffalo, from how it was used for Native survival, to why the number of Buffalos in the US severely dropped and how they were able to increase them again.

We saw a buffalo fossil, an albino buffalo, and it’s a great spot to bring kids with its interactive exhibits and play area. This is also one of the best spots in North Dakota to get a souvenir – the gift shop has such cute stuff!

Right near the National Buffalo Museum is the World’s Largest Buffalo Monument! We always stop to take photos in front of anything that’s the “world’s largest” and Dakota Thunder (the buffalo’s name) made for a great photo op!

Plantation Coffee Bar

Plantation Coffee Bar is a locally-owned coffee shop that is a must-visit. Drive through or spend some time in the shop, it’s such a cute atmosphere! I loved their bagel sandwich option for breakfast, we were able to choose from SO MANY different kinds of bagels to build our own and it was so yummy!

After you grab your coffee, head to Jamestown Reservoir for a nice walk overlooking the water! The leaves were just starting to change when we visited in September and it was so pretty. The walking paths are paved and flat, so it’s great for a stroller. There’s a few parks and benches for a break along the way, too!

Right downtown Jamestown is Jonny B’s Brickhouse. This pizza joint is really fun and offers local beer and lots of TVs if you want to catch a game! The homemade pizza rolls were awesome and the staff were so nice!

If you’re looking or unique things to do in Jamestown North Dakota in the fall, head to A-Maze-N Clown Pumpkin Patch! This fall festival is great for kids and the main draw for us was the corn maze. It took us about a half hour to get through and was so well done!

Fort Seward

I’m a big history buff, so we had to stop by Fort Seward which was established in 1872. It was abandoned a few years after, but the history walks around the property were cool to listen to! There’s not much there from back in the day, so you have to use your imagination, but that’s fine by me!

Babb’s Coffee

Babb’s Coffee is a Jamestown staple. It’s THE spot in town for breakfast and coffee with lots of room to work and study. We grabbed an iced latte, scones, and a breakfast sandwich to-go while we set out for our daily adventure!

Izumi Sushi and Hibachi

I’m convinced that the nicest people in all of North Dakota work at Izumi Sushi and Hibachi. We ordered the all-you-can-eat sushi and hibachi and it was fantastic! We loved trying different things on the menu and it was all amazing! And we can definitely be sushi snobs 😊

For a unique park experience, check out Medicine Wheel Park located in Valley City about 30 minutes east of Jamestown. There are cool solar calendars here, along with Native American burial mounds, and plenty of walking trails among its 30-acres.

Also located around Valley City is the City of Bridges Tour that resides along the Sheyenne River Valley National Scenic Byway. There are 8 bridges around the little town that are all unique in their own way! Each as information panels to learn more. We found this so interesting!

One of our favorites was the high bridge which is a railroad bridge that’s still in use today. We found some great view of it at Chautauqua Park in town. We also loved the foot bridge!
