With over 70 wineries in Minnesota, so it’s a must to get out there and try some Minnesota wine. We love to explore local wineries when we’re traveling around Minnesota, so we had to stop by Forestedge Winery (see more about them here!) while we were at Leech Lake last weekend. Keep scrolling to see why you need to too!
We were invited by my Minnesota wine-loving friend Pairs Well With (See more about her local wine events here!) to check out their space, so this post is sponsored, but all opinions are my own 🙂
Reason #1 North woods location
Forestedge winery is located in Laporte, Minnesota, near Walker, Minnesota. It’s about 3 hours north of the Twin Cities and makes for a perfect weekend escape. And it’s literally exactly what the name implies it to be: A winery in the woods. Definitely a must stop if you’re just driving through, or if you’re hanging out in Paul Bunyan State Forest and want a wine break!
Reason #2 Unique fruit wines
If you love sweeter wines, you’re in for a real treat at Forestedge Winery! All of the wines here are made from fruit, no grapes. I didn’t even know that was possible! Even if you like drier wines, you’ll have fun tasting all the flavors – there’s 21 wines to try which means there’s something for everybody. My favorites were the blueberry and the Paul Bunyan Jazz, which is perfect for the holiday season. We bought a few bottles to enjoy come December!
Reason #3 Local tasting room
Forestedge Winery is a small, local winery that only distributes in Minnesota, but the best place to try their wine is the tasting room. The winery is owned and run locally, so if you visit the tasting room you will most likely have your wine poured from the owners themselves. It was so fun to hear Steve and Kristin talk about how they came up with flavor ideas, how each wine is made, and behind the scenes stories that you wouldn’t hear at any other winery! Enjoy 7 wines when you do a tasting, and shop around the gift shop while you’re there too.
Reason #4 Gorgeous garden patio
Can we talk about these BEAUTIFUL flowers for a second?! We visited on a gorgeous August day and enjoyed a glass of wine on the garden patio after our tasting. We admired the flowers and the woods surrounding us – it was the perfect way to spend an afternoon! If you’re hungry, some meat and cheese can be purchased inside to pair with your wine.
Reason #5 Local art Gallery
As if the wine-tasting experience isn’t enough, Forestedge Winery also has an on-site art gallery featuring 5 local artists. I love seeing local businesses supporting each other, and it was fun to stroll around the gallery while sipping some wine. In addition, if you want to see even more art, Forestedge Winery hosts an annual art fair each year with local food, bands, and over 30 artists! For 2019, it’s taking place the weekend of August 17th!
Reason #6 Rhubarb View Farm
All fruits used in the wines are grown locally and regionally to ensure they stay authentic to the North. But, all of the rhubarb used is grown on site! Rows and rows of rhubarb can be spotted as you drive up the driveway, so make sure to take a second to check it out. Minnesotans love their rhubarb, so it only makes sense that they use it to make award-winning rhubarb wine!
Reason #7 On site chickens
I debated if I wanted to dedicate an entire section of this write up to these guys, but they put such a big smile on my face while we were at Forestedge Winery that I decided I had to! Look how cute they are!
Thanks for reading! Now, get out there and enjoy some Minnesota wine!
You have great informational posts! My goal is to visit each winery in Minnesota and I have not made it to this one yet. However, after this I’m excited to go! Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much Melissa! That is the greatest goal I’ve ever heard! Definitely add Forestedge to your list!
