Last weekend, by Dad called me saying he heard of a new Minneapolis Water Taxi on Twitter and that I should try it out for my blog. I love that my parents are always looking out for me! So, I sent a text to the number listed online and reserved some time to take a ride.
I naturally invited my parents to join Cole and I so they could try it out for themselves. Here are 5 reasons you need to try the Minneapolis Water Taxi, too!
#1: Value
Cole and I are always looking for cheap things to do in Minneapolis, so when we saw that a ride on the Minneapolis Water Taxi was only $10 per person, we were even more excited to try it out! $10 gets you a seat on the 6-passenger water taxi that takes you for an hour ride on the Mississippi. If you want to rent the whole thing out for a private ride, it’s $60.
#2: Unique experience
I’ve been on the Mississippi before on larger boats, so being on a small, electric solar powered boat was a much different experience. We were so close to the water we were able to touch it! And Captain Cory took us around into little spaces on the river that no large boat would be able to navigate. We were so close to the St. Anthony falls my mom was getting a little nervous, but don’t worry, we weren’t THAT close 🙂
#3: Views
The Minneapolis Water Taxi starts at the Docks at Boom Island Park. You will see Captain Cory waiting for you in the parking lot ($1 per hour) wearing a captain hat so you know it’s him. From there, we chose to take the water taxi towards downtown Minneapolis under the Hennepin Avenue and 3rd Avenue bridges. Seeing the city from this point of view was so fun! We then turned around and headed into Northeast where Captain Cory said he drops a lot of people off to grab dinner at the nearby restaurants. Instead of being dropped off, we chose to do an hour long trip round trip from Boom Island.
#4: Bring your own snacks and drinks
If the Mississippi and the views weren’t enough, you’re also able to bring your own snacks and drinks onto the boat. We packed a cooler and took advantage of the table. And the best part, we didn’t have to worry about driving the boat! (But we did drive afterwards, so please drink responsibly :)).
#5: Location
The Minneapolis Water Taxi leaves from Boom Island Park, which was only a few minutes drive from our apartment downtown. Afterwards, we walked over to Pryes Brewing Company to check out their new taproom. The “North” sign makes for a great photo opp, and there is a great patio! Pairing these two things together makes for a great afternoon in Minneapolis.
To book, visit the Minneapolis Water Taxi website, or text Captain Cory at 612-801-1921.
Happy boating!
This looks like so much fun! Thanks for sharing.
What fun experience! We may just need to make a date out if it. ☺
