5 downtown NYC bars you need to try

Downtown NYC bars

If you’re looking for some downtown NYC bars to check out after your big meeting, you’ve come to the right place. These have been my favorite downtown NYC bars to visit when I’m in the city for work, and they all offer a different vibe while still giving you the feeling of being in one of the greatest cities on earth!

Depending on what you’re looking for, there’s something for you! And if you’re spending more time in NYC, check out my guide to a weekend in New York.

Get great city views at City Vineyard

City Vineyard is such a fun spot located right off the West Side Highway at Pier 26. With this location, it offers great views of the water and lower Manhattan. Both beer AND wine are on tap, but you can still order a bottle of rosé for the table. Make sure to sit on the second story rooftop on a nice day!

Drink on a sailboat at Grand Banks

Located a few steps away from City Vineyard, Grand Banks offers a unique dining experience right on the water – literally! This sailboat serves food and drinks, but we just grabbed a beer from the bar for happy hour. However, if you are sensitive to motion sickness, I would skip this one as you definitely feel the sway while you’re on board!

Sip frosé at Ulysses

Ulysses and the other bars and restaurants down this street give you an adorable oasis in the middle of Wall Street. Make sure to visit the alley/street located in the back of Ulysses to sit outside and get some fresh NYC air!

Visit a speakeasy at Apothēke

I love a good speakeasy! Apothēke is located right in Chinatown and is findable on Google Maps. Don’t worry there’s no password, just walk right in! I tried the Dr. Ruth cocktail and loved it. It had all my favorites: vodka, champagne, strawberries, rosemary, lime, and agave. If you’re still thirsty (or hungry) stop by Pulqueria Tequila Bar and Restaurant right next-door for some amazing Mexican, even though it’s in the middle of Chinatown!

Step back in time at McSorley’s

McSorley’s Old Ale House is the oldest Irish tavern in NYC. It was established in 1854 and hasn’t changed much since! This bar will always give you a good time, but make sure to bring cash! And they only have two drinks on the menu: dark or light beer, and don’t be surprised if you get two for the price of one 🙂 Cheers your friends and be sure to look around at some of the old photos on the wall.
