Christchurch wineries in the North Canterbury region of New Zealand are SO underrated! With much of the New Zealand winery attention going to Central Otago and Marlborough, it easily becomes lesser-known.
However, the wine and the atmospheres are just as great, if not better! We spent a long day touring around Christchurch wineries and it was a day we’ll never forget. Keep in mind these wineries aren’t right in Christchurch, but the surrounding area, so you’ll need a car. BUT please drink responsibly!
4 Best Christchurch Wineries
Pegasus Bay
If you can only make one stop at Christchurch wineries, make sure it’s Pegasus Bay. It’s literally a dream. We did a tasting for $10 per person which is refundable with any wine purchase and free if you’re eating in the restaurant. Make sure to make a reservation in the restaurant, being the day we visited it was full. The outdoor spaces are absolutely beautiful. The outdoor seating overlooking the flower gardens is out of a movie. And there’s even a nature walk on site! The best!
Terrace Edge
We loved the midcentury modern atmosphere at Terrace Edge. The open and airy tasting room and restaurant is just what our imaginary house would look like! We opted to order a glass of wine and sat outside looking over the stunning countryside. It’s so gorgeous!
The Bone Line
The Bone Line offers free tastings. We sat outside in the courtyard and the owner came outside every few minutes to give us the next tasting. We were two of only a few people there so it was an intimate experience where we were able to ask questions and learn so much about the wines! I recommend sitting outside – the inside is definitely a working winery!
Greystone
Greystone Winery was unfortunately under construction while we were there but we loved their wine! Especially the Pétillant Naturel, or sparkling wine. The only sparkling wines in the region! All wines are certified organic and if you’re lucky you’ll run into the winery dog who roams the premises!
Christchurch wineries blew us away – definitely a New Zealand hidden gem when it comes to wine regions!
